Charlotte Hansel beschäftigt sich mit Verschwörungstheorien und der Frage, was Menschen dazu bringt, ihre tiefsten Überzeugungen aufzugeben und sich von der Wissenschaft abzuwenden. Sie erforscht, inwiefern die Fotografie und Social Media zu der Verbreitung von Verschwörungstheorien beitragen, aber auch welche psychischen und sozialen Mechanismen eine Rolle spielen. Dabei geht es ihr um die Reflexion der eigenen Wahrnehmung, um das Hinterfragen vermeintlichen Wissens, um Fragenstellen statt um Antworten. Den Prozess dieser Suche fasst sie in einem Buch zusammen. I have been researching about what makes people shift their deepest beliefs, go against the status quo, and challenge science. It is in the nature of conspiracy theories that they are not falsifiable. Every piece of evidence that comes from the scientific side is countered with the argument, that the scientists are part of the conspiracy, what makes any discussion about this topic seem pointless. Nevertheless, it is very important to exchange ourselves with people that have opposing ideas and a different perspectives on life. We should try to confront our brains with other realities and be as understanding and empathetic as we can, no matter how absurd, wrong or unbelievable another opinion might seem.
